Configuring a POP email account in Mozilla Thunderbird Print

  • 1

This tutorial assumes you already have an existing email account created with us, or you've created your own in your Mail Control Panel.

Now lets learn how to configure Mozilla Thunderbird with your existing email account using the POP email protocol.

Remember, your username is the mail account's full email address so please replace [email protected] with your full email address.

To create a new account, click Email...

Then click Skip this and use my existing email.

Enter the name you want your recipients to see when they receive your messages.

Enter your email address.

Enter the password for your email account and tick the Remember password check box, then click Continue...

Thunderbird will now attempt to automatically look for the email settings.

Instead, click Manual config.

This is where you have to define your server settings for both your incoming and your outgoing mail.

Choose the POP3 protocol for the Incoming account type.

Enter your Incoming Server hostname: mailx.hosts.net.nz

Then make sure you have the correct incoming mail port number entered. Your incoming port number for the POP protocol should be 995.

Choose the SSL/TLS encryption method.

Choose Encrypted password as the Authentication method.

Next, enter your outgoing server name: mailx.hosts.net.nz

Your port number should be 465 for outgoing mail.

Choose the SSL/TLS encryption method.

Choose Encrypted password as the Authentication method.

Enter your email address in both the Incoming and Outgoing Username fields.

Click Done.

That's it! We've successfully configured Mozilla Thunderbird to send and receive email using our email account.

This is the end of the tutorial. You now know how to configure Mozilla Thunderbird with your existing email account using the POP protocol.
